Trump says his steel tariffs will save the US industry

Turkey US conduct 29th round of patrols in Manbij

President Trump said Wednesday that tariffs are propelling the U.S.to better trade deals, defending his trade wars amid a new round of strong economic reports from the government.

In a 20-minute interview with the newspaper, Trump said some people may complain that steel prices may be "a little more expensive" in the short term because of the tariffs, but that ultimately they will drop. "The tariffs do not make business sense and will hurt the American companies and workers who rely on Turkish metals to meet their customers' needs", the council said in the statement. The U.S. president has recently threatened more tariffs on Canada's auto industry.

According to the Journal, Trump said "our steel industry is one of the talks of the world" and that the industry is "booming".

Petr Cech will start for Arsenal against Chelsea, Unai Emery confirms
His linkup play with Aubameyang was a treat to watch as the Gunners tried to pave their way back into the game on Sunday. We have to stay positive, work on the things we did well and improve on the rest.

Despite Trump's praise, The Journal notes that, though some some steelmakers are expanding production in the US, other USA manufacturers are still dependent on imported metals. Moreover, even the administration's own estimates of the tariffs' impact project a reduction in imports, not their elimination, still leaving significant foreign competition for US makers. "Other Countries should not be allowed to come in and steal the wealth of our great United States of America".

Critics also point to the bigger losses that have resulted from retaliatory tariffs by trading partners.
