Lane is now forecast to become a hurricane on Friday and could become a major hurricane over the weekend.

By the time it reaches the United Kingdom it will be a post-tropical cyclone with more warm and humid conditions accompanying any rainfall - especially in the south east of England which is expected to stay mainly dry.

Northern Ireland, Scotland and western England are all expected to feel the effects of the severe weather, which could potentially be upgraded to a hurricane today. Belfast is forecasted for a peak temperature of 19C.

As far as the weather expected for the weekend is concerned, here's what Met Éireann have said.

However, there is some uncertainty over the path the former storm will take.

It's also set to be breezy, with fresh and gusty south to southwest winds, which will be strong in some coastal areas.

"But by the time it arrives it won't be a storm anymore and we don't have any warnings in place at the moment".

'It is expected to track north eastward towards the UK.

Temperatures could soar into the 30Cs in southern England and London later next week with spells of glorious sunshine over the Bank Holiday weekend.
