Sharing the first look of the film, film producer Kamal Jain wrote that every country has a hero, every legend has a legacy and presented the symbol of Indian women and hero of our independence- Manikarnika.

Of playing Rani Laxmi Bai, Kangana said in a statement, "It's an iconic role". I can only imagine the strength and nerves of steel that Laxmi Bai had.

Talking about her role in the film, Kangana was earlier quoted as saying, "When I signed this film my first thought was "How come there's no film on 'Jhansi ki Rani" yet?' I suddenly felt very fortunate that there isn't any yet". But before that, the makers have unveiled the first official poster of the film which has the actress in a never-seen before avatar.

The film is based on the warrior queen, Rani Laxmibai and the battle she fought against the British empire in 1857. "I have only tried my best to portray her tales of bravery", news agency IANS reports.

To this, Jain added: "As we celebrate our Independence Day today, we owe it to our courageous freedom fighters. We couldn't have been happier with the way the campaign is coming together".

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, directed by Krish, is slated to release on January 25, 2019, (Republic Day weekend).
