NVIDIA teaser hints at GeForce RTX 2080 launch at Gamescom

Now, these RT cores will perform the ray calculations themselves at what NVIDIA is claiming is up to 10 GigaRays/second, or up to 25X the performance of the current Pascal architecture.

Nvidia's Gamescom event in Cologne on 20 August 2018 is set to be the stage for more details.

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX series of cards are designed for user by designers, artists and animators and other creative professionals who might be working in areas such as computer animation or videogame design.

While Nvidia's focus was on the use of the Quadro RTX for real-time ray tracing, the hardware also includes other tweaks: in addition to between 3,702 and 4,608 CUDA processing cores per card, depending on model, the Quadro RTX family also includes between 384 and 576 Tensor Cores, created to accelerate deep-learning and other artificial intelligence tasks. The arrival of real-time ray tracing is the Holy Grail of our industry. The technology firm also noted that its GPU nodes can outperform CPU nodes by 30 times when used for final-frame rendering for film effects.

Samsung has announced that it is the memory maker that has enabled the new Turing GPU based Nvidia Quadro RTX graphics cards.

"Cinesite is proud to partner with Autodesk and NVIDIA to bring Arnold to the GPU, but we never expected to see results this dramatic", said Michele Sciolette, CTO of Cinesite.

Turing also features an update to SMs, which is a collection of CUDA cores, similar to how an AMD CU is a collection of streaming processors (or cores).

Nvidia Turing will combine both its RT Cores and Tensor Cores to usher in a new form of hybrid rendering that includes both simulation and enhanced rasterization. In fact it's one of the furthest things Nvidia makes from a consumer card at all, but it's a massively impressive piece of technology regardless.
