Tiger charges into the hunt as Koepka grabs lead at 100th PGA

"Tiger's never been to St. Louis". The tournament was still going, except by then, two events were coexisting on the same course: the PGA Championship and whatever Woods was doing, the show within a show. That included Koepka. The back-to-back U.S. Open victor sprinted away from the field for much of the afternoon, at one point grabbing a 5-stroke lead.

Woods, searching for a first major win since the 2008 US Open, moved into contention after a blistering front nine which contained five birdies and one bogey. Major championship golf is amusing.

Joining Woods at eight-under were second-ranked defending champion Justin Thomas, fellow American Pat Perez, Ireland's Shane Lowry and British Open champion Francesco Molinari of Italy.

If the PGA posted a marquee high above this final round to come, it might well read "Muscles and Mayhem". The gym is his refuge, a place where he can go and get away from golf and expectations; just not the feeling that he's overlooked among the game's best. Brooks Koepka and Charl Schwartzel both tied the PGA record with a round of 63. He has a chance to make history in the same town where his great uncle, an old shortstop named Dick Groat, helped the Cardinals beat the New York Yankees in the 1964 World Series.

Koepka seemed an unlikely candidate to falter, but falter he did. For most of Saturday's 18 holes, Woods drove traffic.

"The greens were getting fuzzy, they're getting slow, and I didn't hit the putts quite hard enough, " Woods said. The greens would be slightly smoother, the course slightly longer, the approach unchanged - see flag, aim at flag.

"I mean, I know I can shoot a 7 or 8 under round here. It was like, 'All right'".

The kinds of excited whispers typically reserved for those peering through the large crowds for a glance at Woods on the course were being used to single out one among those very crowds Saturday. "The energy's been fantastic, which I really fed off, so I'm excited for that".

Djokovic, Nadal win in Toronto
Djokovic, now ranked 10th in the world, is playing his first tournament since winning a fourth Wimbledon title last month. Wawrinka will face Marton Fucsovics in the second round with a possible clash with Rafael Nadal looming after that.

"He was just shaking his head", Finau said after finishing the rain-delayed round this morning with a 4-under 66, a round that featured just four pars. You're always trying to prove somebody wrong. At The Open after taking the lead on the back nine, he went double-bogey and bogey before playing the last six holes in 1 under.

How much of a chance does Woods have to win for the first time in five years and capture his 15th major title? You know what, watch out for that guy; he's hanging around! . It is even more hard trying to catch Koepka, who looks rock-solid and has won consecutive U.S. Opens. Koepka didn't waste any time and energy complaining about the USGA.

"My caddie said something walking off", Koepka said. Yeah, there's a lot of star power, and it should be. "And it should be: It's a major championship".

After looking for his ball in the reeds at the PGA Championships, Spieth found one, picked it up and hurled it straight into the water.

Will he make things interesting in the final round at Bellerive?

Exhausted and hungry, an old Tiger survived 29 holes Saturday.

It looks like we're all going to have a hell of a lot of fun finding out.
