USA senators ask Assange to testify in Russian Federation probe

London England. Julian Assange founder of the Wikileaks website that published US Government secrets has been wanted in Sweden

Over a month before the Senate Intelligence Committee's letter arrived in London, ten Democrat senators sent a petition to Vice President Mike Pence, demanding that he press the Ecuadorian government to revoke Assange's asylum.

Assange has remained sequestered, for the time being, in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has been given diplomatic asylum after his controversial website Wikileaks published thousands of confidential defense and diplomatic documents in 2010.

His lawyer Jennifer Robinson has today confirmed Assange is "seriously considering" the the request but explained there would be caveats attached. "We are seriously considering the offer but must ensure Mr Assange's protection is guaranteed".

WikiLeaks lawyers informed that they were considering the offer, but "testimony must conform to a high ethical standard".

There was also no immediate confirmation from the Senate committee.

Man missing and 750 evacuated from campsites as floods hit southern France
The Gard government said four German children were taken to hospital on Thursday suffering from hypothermia in Bagnols-sur-Cèze. UK Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna said almost 3in of rain fell over the area in 24 hours.

Under Moreno, speculation had been growing over the possibility of Assange being ejected from the embassy as the Ecuadorean government increased pressure, first by suspending his internet and phone access in March then by withdrawing security in May. "As part of that inquiry, the Committee requests that you make yourself available for a closed interview with bipartisan Committee staff at a mutually agreeable time and location".

Assange was granted political asylum by Ecuador for the objective of avoiding extradition to the United States, where he is believed to be wanted for leaking government secrets. Those allegations have since been dropped but Assange would be arrested by British police, should he leave the embassy, for breaching bail conditions.

He said the claims were a political smear linked to WikiLeaks' work and said he feared being transferred from Sweden to the United States to face trial for the release of leaked U.S. military documents. In July, special counsel Robert Mueller indicted 12 Russian military intelligence officers allegedly behind the "fictitious persona" Guccifer 2.o.

The email releases have been linked to the alleged Russian conspiracy to influence the election via fake news and other means.
