Professional golfer Jarrod Lyle passed away Wednesday night after a lengthy battle with leukemia, his family announced.

"He has been mine ever since", Allenby wrote in an essay for Players Voice last week, after Briony Lyle announced her husband had made a decision to receive palliative care and forego further treatment.

Lyle was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in 1999 when he was 17.

Lyle beat his cancer for a second time in 2013 to return to playing professionally in Australia and on the PGA Tour.

Lyle, who played on the PGA Tour during five seasons over 10 years, suffered a third recurrence of acute myeloid leukemia on December 6.

"It breaks my heart to tell everyone that Jarrod is no longer with us", the golfer's wife, Briony Lyle, said in a statement on Thursday, August 9, 2018.

Briony Lyle said her husband had asked her to pass on a "simple message: 'Thanks for your support, it meant the world. Our humble thanks to you all", she added.

Gow says one incredible trait perfectly sums up the incredible human being that Lyle was - even during his darkest days. That was the last day he was conscious, so he went out knowing all the people in Australia stumped up like they always do.

"He went back to play 20 events on the US Tour... and that's where he got a huge amount of respect from the players because there's not many who could come back from that and it was a tough ride for him".

Rudy Gay: Difference between Spurs, Raptors is ‘night and day’
However, questions remain about the status of a right leg injury that shelved him for all but nine games last season. Leonard's exit from San Antonio had been tumultuous.

"All along, he was displaying not only great golf to the galleries, but spreading love and messages of hope and inspiration to thousands worldwide who admired his personable demeanor", it said.

Golf Australia paid respects with a video and said the game "has lost one of its greatest characters". His agent is friends with Lyle, and DeChambeau had followed, and been taken in by, Lyle's health battle. "My time was short, but if I've helped people think and act on behalf of those families who suffer through cancer, hopefully it wasn't wasted", he said.

Bryson DeChambeau is supporting Jarrod Lyle's family with the money he won Tuesday at Bellerive Country Club. He was only 36 years old.

Last week, Lyle thanked friends and fans in an emotional message after deciding to halt his treatment, saying he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

With typical courage, Lyle fought on, and as his situation became known, the entire golf world rallied.

There will be a public memorial service at The Sands in Torquay on Thursday, September 27.

Tiger Woods is among a growing list of professional golfers to donate to a GoFundMe page set up to support Lyle's two daughters.

"As per Jarrod's wish, please donate to Challenge in lieu of gifts or flowers".
