'Lock your doors': At least four dead in Canada shooting

The police asked people to lock their doors and avoid the area, confirming there had been 'multiple fatalities'.

At least four people have been shot dead in eastern Canada.

Fredericton is the capital of New Brunswick, a province on the eastern side of the country and above ME in the USA.

Armed police as well as paramedics are at the scene.

The force said on its Twitter feed that the "incident is ongoing", and confirmed at least four people have died.

CNN network partner CTV, citing police, reported that "the incident is 'ongoing.' " It occurred in the Brookside Drive area of the city, police said.

Robert DiDiodato, who lives on Oakland Avenue, which connects to Brookside Drive along the city's north side, told USA television network CBC he heard a series of "firecracker" sounds at about am.

About five minutes later, he could hear similar noises near his home.

"Doors are locked and everybody's inside", he said.
