Brad Pitt slams Jolie's 'media manipulation' claim he's a 'deadbeat dad'

Angelina Jolie Accuses Brad Pitt Of Failing To Pay'Meaningful Child Support

Brad Pitt has responded to estranged wife Angelina Jolie's claim that he hasn't paid "meaningful child support" in the more than year-and-a-half since she filed for divorce.

The filing calls it an attempt to make it look like Angelina wanted out as soon as possible, branding it a "a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage".

In court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Pitt's attorney stated, "Respondent has previously loaned Petitioner $8.0 million to assist her in purchasing her current residence and has paid over $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of Petitioner and the minor children".

He submitted paperwork detailing the funds Pitt has handed over to date, revealing he "loaned" his estranged wife $8 million to buy the house she and their kids are now living in, and has paid in excess of $1.3 million "in bills for the benefit of (Jolie) and the minor children". "Brad was coping with Angie's hard moves when everything was sealed, but now that she is changing attorneys and going public with her filings again, he feels like she has taken off the gloves and is fighting dirty", the source continued.

"[Pitt] has a statutory duty to pay child support".

After the latest court filing, Jolie's spokeswoman said: "The aim of Angelina's routine court filing is to provide closure to the marriage in a way that clears a path toward the next stage of their lives and allows her and Brad to recommit as devoted coparents to their children".

Jolie's legal team had a few choice words for Pitt's filing as well. 'But she filed in LA Superior Court knowing that it would go public and that he would be made out to be a deadbeat dad - which he isn't'.

The incident was reported and Pitt was investigated by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, but was later cleared of wrongdoing. "[Angelina's] main focus has always been to co-parent with Brad", the source adds.

And according to UsWeekly, a major reason for the bitter battle is Jolie's holdup is resentment towards her third husband.
