Ryanair cancels 600 flights next week due to ongoing strikes

A Ryanair Boeing 737-800 plane takes off at Lisbon airport in Portugal

Ryanair, which flies in 37 countries and carried 130 million passengers last year, averted widespread strikes before Christmas by deciding to recognise trade unions for the first time in its 32-year history.

Ryanair pilots based in Ireland have begun their second 24-hour strike in a week in a dispute about their terms and conditions.

Ryanair isn't underestimating the impact the cabin crew strikes are going to have on passengers either, as it clearly wants to maximise the blame that it's laying at the feet of striking staff.

Cabin crew have raised similar issues to Ryanir's Irish pilots in relation to seniority procedures for base transfers and promotions, but is also petitioning the carrier to stop forcing European cabin crew to set up Irish bank accounts.

Ryanair will also be affected by strikes from cabin crew in Belgium, Portugal and Spain next Wednesday and Thursday (July 25 and 26).

More broadly, the report identifies six categories of cyber threats and current efforts to counter them. The Russian endeavor to impact the 2016 presidential election is not enough.

"We can readily re-accommodate this small number of customers on other flights", added Mr Wilson.

Ryanair said it cancelled the flights because of a planned strike by cabin crew in the aforementioned countries.

Most pilots flying for Ryanair are self-employed, which is why the airline is able to continue most flights. This will affect 50,000 passengers who should fly out by the canceled flights.

The figures represent around 12 per cent of Ryanair's daily customers, which the carrier says have been offered refunds or alternative flights during the seven days prior or following the strike action.

The low-priced Irish airline which predicted that 100,000 passengers would be affected, said in a statement they had "been offered re-accommodation on alternative flights" or a complete refund.
