CVS apologizes after transgender woman says she was denied a hormone prescription

A CVS pharmacist in Arizona was sacked after he refused to fill the hormone prescription of a transgender woman. "I was finally going to start seeing my body reflect my gender identity and the woman I've always known myself to be".

"He just kept asking, loudly and in front of other CVS staff and customers, why I was given the prescriptions", Hall wrote.

Hall said she was mortified and distressed, adding that the pharmacist wouldn't hand the prescription note back to her so she could take it to another drugstore.

The pharmacist wouldn't give the prescriptions back to her, Hall wrote, so she had to ask her doctor to call them in to another pharmacy.

"On a recent day in April, I left my doctor's office elated".

"I have contacted CVS' corporate complaint line multiple times, but no one has addressed my concerns or offered me an apology", she wrote.

Arteaga was able to fill her prescription at a different location later, and filed a complaint with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy.

In a statement to CNN, CVS said the pharmacist violated company policies and is no longer employed.

"CVS Health extends its honest apologies to Ms. Hall for her experience at our pharmacy in Fountain Hills, Arizona last spring", Mike DeAngelis, Senior Director of Corporate Communications for CVS, said. CVS said in part that the pharmacist's actions did not reflect the company's values or commitment to inclusion.

Elkann didn't give details of Marchionne's health problems, adding that his "first thoughts go to Sergio and his family". The sports auto maker also announced a replacement, naming Fiat Chrysler chairman John Elkann as his successor.

Hall said even her doctor's office was unable to persuade the pharmacist to fill the prescription.

A pharmacist working for CVS in Arizona refused to fill a trans woman's hormone prescription and is no longer employed by the company, according to statements released from the woman, Hilde Hall, on Thursday and the company on Friday.

"Hilde said she was almost in tears by how the pharmacist was treating her, and no one should face that kind of judgment". The state law does not mention hormone therapy prescriptions. 'I felt like the pharmacist was trying to out me as transgender in front of strangers'.

The pharmacist refused to fill one of the subscriptions, Hall wrote. DeAngelis said CVS was discussing ways to reinforce its guide for helping LGBTQ patients.

"We also apologize for not appropriately following up on Ms. Hall's original complaint to CVS, which was due to an unintentional oversight", DeAngelis said in the email. The company said the employee had been fired, but did not disclose if it happened immediately or after media reports on the incident.

"So far what I have experienced is a lot of dirty looks and a lot of some people spitefully using the wrong pronouns", Inderrinden said.

After Arteaga complained to the pharmacy board about a Walgreens pharmacist denying her a miscarriage-related prescription because of personal beliefs, the agency began an investigation.

'Our policy allows pharmacists to step away from filling a prescription for which they have a moral objection, ' they said in a tweet. He said the company learned of Hall's post Thursday and spoke with her Friday to apologize directly. "Is there a company policy that he refused to follow?" said Gibson.
