Liz Cambage of Dallas Wings sets WNBA mark with 53-point game

Dallas Wings' Australian star Liz Cambage has rewritten the WNBA record books to single-handedly sink the New York Liberty 104-87.

Cambage, who helped the Australia Opals to a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, broke the old mark of 51 points set by Riquna Williams of the Tulsa Shock at San Antonio in 2013.

"I didn't see that, but thank you Mr Bogut", Cambage, when told about the tweet, said.

"I just was feeling it, I guess", Cambage said in a television interview following the game, a wide smile on her face. The young pivot pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked five shots in the WNBA record-setting performance. Cambage shot an efficient 17-for-22 including 4 three pointers and was 15-for-16 on free throws.

However, in order to make a deal possible the FFA would have to top up any salary offered to Bolt from its $3 million fund to attract "marquee" players.

Cambage, of Australia, was drafted No. 2 overall behind Moore in 2011 by Tulsa, but she played just two seasons there - 2011 and 2013.

But at just £5m, Chelsea and new manager Maurizio Sarri are said to see the City man as a good option. Jadon Sancho and Mahmoud Dahoud also came close for Dortmund, but failed to find the back of the net.

Cambage returned to the WNBA after a five-year hiatus, spending the majority of her time in China before returning to the world's premier competition in 2018. Minnesota's Maya Moore scored 48 points in a two-overtime game in 2014, and Phoenix's Diana Taurasi had 47 in a three-OT game in 2006.

The franchise moved to Dallas for 2016, changing its name to the Wings, and retained Cambage's rights. Dallas improved to 13-9 on the season and sit in fourth place now. With her team comfortably ahead, Cambage set the record with a 3-pointer from the top of the arc in the game's final minute.

The most recent National Basketball Association player with 50 points, 10 rebounds and 75 percent shooting accuracy in an National Basketball Association game was Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan in 1996.

Kia Nurse scored 25 points, with four 3-pointers, for NY (7-15), which saw its two-game winning streak snapped.

Remarkable. One of the best post players this season, bar none. I think I had three threes tonight.
