Congress failed to fulfil household electrification promise: PM Modi

Modi’s government has a clear majority in the 545-member lower house of parliament

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has declined to obtain a warrant of arrest for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the body said in a statement today.

"From the ramparts of Red Fort, I announced every village will be electrified". The PM expressed happiness and extended his wishes to the villagers who were elated after benefitting from the rural electrification scheme.

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh failed to keep the promise of 100% electrification.that he had made in 2005.

"Most of the villages were in remote, hilly areas, and in areas with poor connectivity. This was quite unfortunate", said Modi in an address to people from villages across India that have been recently electrified.

PM Modi was interacting with the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) on Thursday.

No-confidence motion test for Congress, allies: PM Modi's jibe at Opposition
Making a jibe at Gandhi, Modi said people are arrogant when they say that "if they speak for 15 minutes, I can't stand". Modi reiterated that the NDA government is committed towards the development of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Drawing a stark contrast, Prime Minister Modi said it has been 70 years since India attained Independence but 18,000 villages still did not have electricity connections.

The Prime Minister during the interaction said that thousands of villages have been electrified since NDA government has taken over. He said the then President of the ruling party went a step ahead and said the government will bring electricity to every home. Needless to say, none of that happened during their tenure.

"One of the priorities for us is the development of Eastern India".

PM Modi said when his government came to power in 2014 it noticed that public-sector banks had been plundered. This changed her life forever. "Of the 18,000 villages which were deprived of electricity, close to 15,000 villages were from the East, while close to 6,000 belonged to the North East". The original target was to complete this electrification by 31 December 2018.
