Heat warnings issued for much of B.C.'s South Coast

The heat warning is expected to end on Wednesday, but then an entirely different - though no less unsafe - weather front will move in, with a chance of thunderstorms hitting Calgary by Wednesday afternoon.

It said in a statement: "The summertime heat continues over much of the inner south coast early this week".

Environment Canada says temperatures are not out of the ordinary for this time of year, but warns extreme heat carries health risks - especially for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, those with chronic illnesses or anyone working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Check on older family, friends and neighbours.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Residents are also encouraged to reschedule outdoor activities or plan them for cooler parts of the day.
