Georges Lemaître, astronomer who proposed Big Bang Theory

It was the combination of astrology and physics that led him to make his greatest discoveries - about the universe expanding and the basis of the Big Bang Theory. However, two years later, Einstein accepted the calculations to be correct.

Lemaitre gave his lecture and theory, Albert Einstein stood up and said: "this is the most attractive and satisfying explanation of the universe that I have ever heard."He was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Belgium Arts and the Pontifical Academy of Sciences".

The man himself was born on 17 July in 1894 in Charleroi, Belgium, and died at the age of 71 in 1966 in Leuven.

Today would have been the Belgian Catholic priest's 124th birthday, which is why Google is paying tribute to the influential astronomer.

According to the Google Doodle, Lemaitre had accurately estimated a numerical value which was later known as the Hubble Constant. His role as a priest and a scientist rarely intersected.

Lemaitre was also a Catholic Priest and a professor at Catholic University of Leuven, he also proposed a theory called "Cosmic Egg" which is now known as the "Big Bang Theory".

He then continued to study astronomy at Cambridge University with Arthur Eddington, continuing at Harvard College Observatory and MIT.

Georges Lemaitre received the highest Belgian scientific distinction, the Francqui Prize, in 1934. He referred to the Big Bang Theory as "hypothesis of the primeval atom" or the "Cosmic Egg".

On this Tuesday, Google celebrated his birth anniversary with a GIF showing his picture with the ever-expanding universe, which can be shown and display in the background and on the backdrop.

Lemaitre's work was widely recognised around the world, and are hugely influential until this day.

Albert Einstein, who Lemaitre had a long-term professional and personal relationship with, discredited the theory at the time, but was obviously later proved wrong.
