Ahead Of Summit With Putin, Trump Calls China, Russia And EU "Foes"

The president of European Council accused President Trump of trafficking "fake news" with Trump telling CBS that the European Union is a "foe" of the United States.

President Trump says the U.S.is being treated unfairly on trade in part 2 of his interview with Maria Bartiromo on 'Sunday Morning Futures'.

"I think the president can put this on the table and say, 'This is a serious matter that we need to talk about, '" Bolton said. "Now you wouldn't think of the European Union but they're a foe", he said.

Despite his comments about the European Union - in which he also said that Russian Federation is a "foe in certain respects" and "China is a foe economically" - Trump signed a communique at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit that had been agreed to by their ambassadors last weekend, five days before the summit began.

"I think she made one very catastrophic mistake and that was taking all of these illegals (sic), you know taking all of the people from wherever they come from", Trump said in a joint interview published by German daily Bild and British newspaper The Times, referring to Merkel's open-door policy for refugees fleeing war and persecution. "They're competitors. They want to do well and we want to do well".

The meeting comes just days after 12 Russian intelligence officers were charged by a US federal grand jury for hacking the Democrats ahead of the 2016 election, the most detailed USA accusation yet that Moscow meddled in the election to help Trump.

Chants of "We love Trump, We love Trump" broke out as the president's motorcade passed, and Trump waved.

"I respect the leaders of those countries", Trump said of the European Union.

Shortly after the publication of the CBS interview, European Council President Donald Tusk wrote on Twitter that "America and the EU are best friends".

Germany charges Iranian diplomat over opposition rally bomb plot
Pompeo appended a map claiming that Iran had at least indirect involvement in at least 11 terrorist attacks in Europe since 1979. However, Iran was now "treating us with much more respect right now, than they did in the past", Trump added.

"I can't tell you what's going to happen, but I can tell you what I'll be asking for".

Trump is due to meet with Putin in Helsinki for a summit on Monday.

"Nothing bad is going to come out of" the Helsinki meeting, he said, "and maybe some good will come out". Trump regularly criticizes American news media outlets and has called out some journalists by name. Now he's trashing our European allies while fawning all over Vladimir Putin, who he praised for putting on the "best ever" World Cup.

They have met twice before on the sidelines of worldwide summits.

But Jon Huntsman, the USA ambassador to Russian Federation, said Monday's meeting "is really the first time for both presidents to actually sit across the table and have a conversation, and I hope it's a detailed conversation about where we might be able to find some overlapping and shared interests".

Huntsman on Sunday said that it was "highly unlikely" the United States would recognize Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea, but would not rule it out.

"EU is very hard", Trump said.

Trump added others to his list, but in milder terms.

"That's what one of the purposes of this meeting is, so the president can see eye to eye with President Putin and ask him about it", he said.
