Jaguar escapes habitat at New Orleans, kills 6 animals

A jaguar escaped from its enclosure at a New Orleans zoo on Saturday and killed six other animals as it rampaged through the grounds.

Fortunately, there were no human injuries reported and the other piece of good news is that the Audubon Zoo had not yet opened for the day.

Around 7:20 a.m. on Saturday morning, a male jaguar went rogue from his habitat and began making his way around the zoo's enclosures. However, four alpacas, one emu and one fox were attacked and killed by the jaguar.

In their statement, officials added that due to the tragic loss it has been a hard day for the staff at the Audubon Zoo and that is why they will remain closed for the rest of Saturday.

Israel strikes Gaza, Hamas fires rockets
The Israeli military claimed that its so-called Iron Dome missile defense system had managed to intercept 16 of the projectiles. It accuses Gaza's Islamist rulers Hamas of seeking to use the protests as cover for attacks against Israel.

The Audubon Zoo plans to investigate how the jaguar was able to escape.

"In the history of Audubon, at least the last 50 years, we have not had any incident", said Ron Forman, head of the Audubon Nature Institute. "This is by far the biggest incident, the biggest magnitude, the biggest tragedy we've had".

The zoo announced it would be closed for the rest of the day Saturday and will reopen to the public Sunday at 10 a.m. They added that the zoo passed accreditations in April 2018, and must go through the accreditation process every five years.
