May and Trump will have positive trade discussion: United Kingdom finance minister Hammond

I think she is a nice person. I get along with her very nicely.
       Donald Trump

President Trump had told The Sun that the Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit blueprint "will probably kill" the chance for a bilateral trade deal between the two nations, pointing out that America "would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK" under the plans.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday he looked forward to finalising a trade deal with Britain, backtracking an interview in which he criticised Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plans by saying her proposal would kill such an agreement.

Speaking at Chequers, Mr Trump told Mrs May "whatever you do is OK with me" on Brexit, but urged her to "make sure we can trade together".

Yesterday, Trump fanned the flames by giving Rupert Murdoch's Sun tabloid an exclusive interview where he blasted May's policies and threatened to take a U.S-U.K trade deal off the table over the Brexit development.

"I think she's doing a terrific job, by the way", Trump said of May's handling of Brexit after having said in the interview that she had ignored his advice on how to negotiate.

"I didn't criticize the Prime Minister, I have a lot of respect for her", he said.

Pointing to May, Trump said "this incredible woman right here is doing a fantastic job, a great job", and added that the United States is looking forward to finalising a "great" bilateral trade agreement with the UK. I think she is a nice person. But we record when we deal with reporters.

And, what about the so-called special relationship that supposedly links the British and American governments? "I would have done it much differently".

President Donald Trump once again falsely claimed he "predicted" Brexit. "She said: "Don't worry, it's only the press".

Parakilas said: "Both May and Trump tried to put a good face on at the press conference but we are going to continue to see. other issues which will divide the two again". And he marveled during the joint appearance at Chequers, the 16th century country residence used by British prime ministers since the 1920s.

As Mr Trump and Ms May spoke, thousands of protesters marched through central London, one of more than 100 demonstrations against the President planned during his stay.

Trump has also frequently angered British politicians and has been involved in social media spats with London's Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan who Trump said had "done a very bad job on terrorism".

President Donald Trump paid tribute to the legacy of Winston Churchill on Friday amid questions about whether he's putting new strains on the "special relationship" between the US and the United Kingdom that was forged more than 70 years ago.
