JUST IN: Chelsea Sack Conte, Appoints Sarri As New Manager

Chelsea transfer news Abramovich Sarri Conte

Chelsea have sacked Italian Antonio Conte as manager, media in Britain and Italy reported on Thursday.

But Conte's relationship with the Chelsea board fell apart, with the Italian feeling he had not been sufficiently backed in the transfer market.

Jorginho would go to Chelsea regardless of Sarri.

Speculation over Conte's future at Stamford Bridge has raged throughout the summer, with Chelsea entering lengthy negotiations with Napoli to bring Maurizio Sarri to West London as his replacement.

In his first season in charge, Chelsea set a wins record with 30, finishing atop the Premier League table, comfortably ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in second place. They defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup Final in May, winning the competition for the eighth time.

Even before that, Fabregas openly criticised Conte's defensive tactics as Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona in February. He had been replaced in Naples by Carlo Ancelotti but not released from his contract, forcing the London club to pay a fee to secure him.

The Blues are now expected to appoint Sarri, who recently left Napoli, which led to a contract wrangle with the Italian club, although the saga is nearing a conclusion.

Under Sarri's tutelage, Dries Mertens has been transformed into one of the continent's most potent attacking threats, the Belgian scoring a whopping 56 goals in the last two seasons for the free-flowing Partenopei.

One player that Sarri hasn't worked with but who has been linked with a move to Chelsea is Russian star Alexandr Golovin off the back of an excellent European campaign last season followed by an exceptional World Cup for the hosts. There is a chance that an interest may be reignited with Sarri's arrival though, as he has been such a crucial part of his Napoli team over the past few seasons.
