Pakistan readies for disgraced ex-PM Sharif's return from UK

The army will deploy 350,000 security personnel to polling stations throughout the country on election day. Caretaker Home Minister Agha Umar Bungalzai told The Associated Press another 120 people were wounded in Friday's bombing.

Though these bombings doesn't come as a surprise as the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) had already warned of election-related violence ahead of the polls and suggested enhanced security for the electoral candidates, but the governments, provincial and federal, have ostensibly failed to grasp the gravity of the threats. He, however, escaped unhurt while four people were killed and 14 others injured in attack, ARY News reported.

In the first incident near the KP town of Bannu, four people were killed and 39 injured when a bomb hidden inside a motorcycle detonated as a politician's convoy passed by on Friday, police said.

The nature of the attack was not known and police and intelligence agencies were trying of figure out if it was a suicide bombing.

A province already scarred with violence, Balochistan witnessed a bloodbath when a suicide bomber, carrying at least 15kg of explosives, struck a Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) election rally in Mastung, martyring PB-35 candidate and former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Aslam Raisani, Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, and 85 others.

Brother of Siraj Raisani, Lashkar Raisani have also confirmed the explosion killed Raisani, who was running for a provincial seat PB-35 with Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

"Mir Siraj Raisani succumbed to wounds while he was being shifted to Quetta", he said.

The politician Akram Khan Durrani, a candidate of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) party survived, police said. No group has yet claimed responsibility. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the ANP rally.

Bilour was part of the predominantly secular, ethnic Pashtun nationalist Awami National Party, which has long competed with religious parties for votes in Pakistan's volatile Pashtun lands, along the border with Afghanistan.

According to reports, at least nineteen people including Mr. Bilour were killed in the attack.

Following the series of attacks this week, activists called for Pakistani authorities to remain vigilant to protect candidates during the final days of the campaign season.

Security situation in Pakistan has dramatically improved in recent years, with the military cracking down on militancy that has cost tens of thousands of lives in the past decade.
