Area MPP leading Tory rollback of Ontario sex-ed curriculum

Doug Ford has decided his first order of business will be to get rid of the carbon tax

Along with legislating an end to cap-and-trade, Mr. Smith said the Tories will work to prevent a future government from imposing a carbon price in Ontario.

Ford made good on a key campaign promise Wednesday, announcing the immediate retirement of the CEO of Hydro One and the resignation of the utility's entire board of directors.

The speech - written by the premier's office and read by Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell at the Ontario legislature - set out a road map for the new Progressive Conservative government's term, pledging to cut taxes, provide long-term funding for the health-care system and slash government waste.

At the cabinet's swearing-in ceremony last month, Ford and Finance Minister Vic Fedeli both promised a line-by-line audit of the previous government's spending.

The new sex-ed curriculum sparked controversy, particularly among social conservatives, when the Liberal government introduced it.

The cap-and-trade program that funded EHVIP was nixed July 3, nearly as soon as premier Doug Ford took office, and while it wasn't clear then when the incentives would go away, says Automotive News Canada, a post on the EHVIP website July 11 explained the timeline of its cancellation.

The government will address those issues at a later date, he said.

"Absolutely not, I'm here today, I'm taking questions", he said. "You're not going to be able to afford to buy those services with a couple of extra dollars in your pocket".

The Kathleen Wynne government's cap-and-trade program - an initiative that Premier Doug Ford have long dismissed as a tax grab - will be legally unravelled.

"If you are going to change direction it needs to be done in a responsible way to mitigate financial risks for Ontarians", said Schreiner. "You can't just come in with a wrecking ball and take something down and then not build".

Lisa Thompson says ministry staff are working to inform school boards of the decision to revert to the curriculum that was in place before 2015.

Fraser also slammed the Tory pledge to repeal the sex ed curriculum and said claims that parents weren't consulted during its development are wrong.

University of Toronto political science professor Nelson Wiseman said Ford, who led the party to a sweeping majority, is capitalizing on his momentum.
