2000-year-old Sarcophagus discovered in Egypt

2000-year-old Sarcophagus discovered in Egypt

The sarcophagus, which is a tomb that is sometimes buried, was discovered July 1 during routine excavation work for the construction of a new building in Alexandria's Sidi Gaber district, according to the Ministry of Antiquities.

The sarcophagus is 185 cm tall, 265 cm long and 165 cm wide, and is believed to be the largest ever found in Alexandria, a city on the northern coast of Egypt.

About it reports Fox News.

A layer of mortar between the lid and the body of the sarcophagus indicated it had not been opened since being closed in antiquity, Supreme Council of Antiquities general secretary Dr Mostafa Waziri said.

Also found were carved alabaster head, which probably represents the owner of the tomb.

It promises to reveal secrets about the Siwa Oasis, one of the most remote settlements in Egypt, including how foreign rule affected the country between 200-300 BCE. Recently, archaeologists have discovered a 2,200-year old gold coin depicts the ancient king Ptolemy III, an ancestor of the famous Cleopatra. The finding is rare, and experts are trying to determine what is inside it.

Additionally, experts in Australia found the tattered remains of an ancient priestess in a 2500-year-old Egyptian coffin that was long thought to be empty.

Ireland holds the same position as it did in 2017, and this puts it in the bottom third of European Union member states. These are parameters that do not figure into cable .co.uk's Worldwide broadband speed league.

Other recent finds include an ancient cemetery in Egypt with more than 40 mummies and a necklace containing a "message from the afterlife".

They belonged to an unidentified Ancient Egyptian Princess and the head and body of a crocodile from the River Nile.

Experts admit they have no idea who's inside.

But this one has likely been sealed for more than 2,000 years.

The grave was discovered when a team from the ministry was checking out the site for construction purposes.
