U.S. Coast Guard rescues 11 passengers in Alaska plane crash

Emergency responders assist a passenger injured in a crash of a Taquan Air plane in mountainous terrain on Prince of Wales Island Tuesday. "Thankfully, it was a good outcome".

A chartered de Havilland Canada DHC-3T Turbo Otter float-equipped airplane crashed in a remote part of Alaska on Tuesday morning, but after a brief search by the U.S. Coast Guard, all 11 people on board were rescued. It provided no further detail on injuries.

Mischa Chernick, a spokeswoman for PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center, said all 11 individuals from the plane were brought to the hospital and being assessed.

The channel said 10 people were injured as it hit the side of Mount Jumbo at a height of around 2,000 feet (600 meters), and were all in a stable condition.

The pilot was flying from Prince of Wales Island and bound for Ketchikan when the crash occurred, according to the Troopers.
