The crash site is 2,000 feet above sea level in a mountainous area.

Clint Johnson with the National Transportation Safety Board says the plane departed a fishing lodge at Steamboat Bay, on Noyes Island, at about 7:30 a.m., headed for Ketchikan.

There are reports the plane was one of the sightseeing flights that are popular in the region.

The company said it had suspended all scheduled flights Tuesday and was cooperating with authorities. "It is imperative we understand the factors surrounding this incident to prevent similar ones", the company said in a statement. Alaska State Troopers have identified the plane as a Taquan Air flight. All occupants in the crash are expected to survive, Hengen said.

The pilot was flying from Prince of Wales Island and bound for Ketchikan when the crash occurred, according to the Troopers.
