Astros send reliever Ken Giles down to Triple-A Fresno

Ken Giles may have cursed at manager A.J. Hinch after getting pulled from Tuesday’s game. More

The Astros have optioned righthander pitcher Ken Giles to Triple A after his ninth-inning meltdown Tuesday night, the team announced Wednesday. When manager A.J. Hinch pulled him from the game, Giles muttered what looked like an expletive as he was leaving the mound. The late reliever that the Phillies traded in 2015 for a package that included Vince Velasquez had given up 36 hits and 17 earned runs over 30 2/3 innings this season with a 4.99 ERA.

The Astros have recalled left-hander Cionel Perez in a corresponding move.

Tory vice chairs quit over Brexit
The broadsheet version of Die Welt says the government is "wobbling" after the departure of Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary. Davis said his job required "an enthusiastic believer in your approach, and not merely a reluctant conscript".

"I did hear about it", he said, via the Houston Chronicle. I don't know, man. He can let me know if it was directed at me. You can certainly understand I'll address it. It has been a season of woe so far for Giles, whom the Astros have entrusted the closer role. He promptly punched himself in the face on his way off the mound.

Giles has 12 saves but a 4.99 ERA this season after posting a 2.30 ERA in 2017. Rondon did eventually get three outs though, and the game went into extra innings. Nearly more memorable than that was Giles punching himself in the face after giving up four runs to the Yankees in the ninth inning on May 2.
