Apple releases new, faster MacBook Pro laptops

Apple rumoured to be releasing a linewide hardware refresh this year

In a press release today, Apple announced updates to its MacBook Pro line of notebook computers. Graphics are courtesy of Intel Iris Plus 655, with 128 MB of eDRAM.

The 13in laptop gains quad-core versions of the i5 and i7 processors, up from the dual-core versions used until now, which Apple says will be up to twice as fast.

The simply named Blackmagic eGPU costs $699 and comes equipped with Radeon Pro 580 graphics clocked at 1,200MHz. Both have more storage than before: the 15-inch model can go up to a 4 TB solid state drive, while the smaller model maxes out at 2 TB. For example, the introduction of True Tone, which is meant to improve the user's viewing experience. "The latest generation MacBook Pro is the fastest and most powerful notebook we've ever made", said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

Two new smart watches are believed to be getting readied for launch with slightly larger displays. Apple also added an updated custom chip called the T2, which provides better security and brings the voice-controlled "Hey Siri" option to the Mac for the first time.

The Apple Watch could soon receive on of its biggest design changes since launch, with a report indicating both models of the Series 4 smartwatch will come with larger displays.

Additionally, Kuo said Apple may release a new low-priced laptop, similar to the MacBook Air, but likely rebranded in a new way. It has two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports with 85W host charging capabilities, four USB Type-A ports and one HDMI 2.0 port that supports 4K Ultra HD and 4K DCI resolutions at up to 60 fps, so you can hook up two additional displays if you'd like.

The list starts with three new iPhones - a 5.8-inch and a 6.5-inch OLED models, as well as a 6.1-inch LCD model. The 13-inch starts at $1,799, while the 15-inch starts from $2,399.
