President Trump enjoys 'suspense' ahead of Supreme Court announcement

Former Arizona Senator Jon Kyl has been tapped by the White House to guide President Trump's Supreme Court nominee through the Senate confirmation process.

As soon as Trump announces his Supreme Court pick, Judicial Crisis Network, a conservative political advocacy organization, says it will start airing ads in Alabama, Indiana, North Dakota and West Virginia promoting the nomination.

When President Trump's political obituary is written, you can bet the decision he makes Monday about a Supreme Court justice will be pretty high up.

The fate ofthe President's nominee in the confirmation vote later this year, however, depends on whether Mr. Trump has all, or merely most, of his fellow Republicans in his corner, and whether some Democrats, wary of their own survival in the November midterm elections, defect and support the Trump nominee. An official said Thursday that Trump had completed his scheduled interviews for potential nominees.

President Donald Trump's top contenders for the vacancy appear to be federal appeals judges Amy Coney Barrett, Thomas Hardiman, Brett Kavanaugh and Raymond Kethledge.

In this March 8, 2017, file photo, Judge Thomas Hardiman smiles during a meeting with The Associated Press in Philadelphia. "I don't think my role is to rubber stamp for the President, but it's also not an automatic knee-jerk no, either".

But much like his entire presidency, there are no assurances it will go smoothly. Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, the GOP nominee challenging McCaskill this fall, released a campaign ad this week targeting her over the coming Supreme Court fight. "And I expect we'll do that on sort of a normal timetable of a couple of months".

"This is a nightmare for red-state Democrats to oppose a highly qualified nominee, and all four of these people are highly qualified, been on the court, know what they're doing, mainstream judges", Graham said.

Opposition Labour Party Brexit spokesman Keir Starmer said May's proposal had "fudge written all over it". Among other things, Mr Johnson described the PM's proposals as "a big turd".

Decisions on these and otherhot topics of the Trump years - the North American free-trade agreement and climate change - are reversible by a future presidential administration, perhaps by a moderate Republican White House or, nearly certainly, a Democratic administration. First of all, she was on the list of pre-approved conservatives the Federalist Society provided Trump.

Hardiman, 52, attended Georgetown Law.

Kavanaugh, 53, began his career as a clerk to Kennedy.

He recently voiced disagreement with a court decision allowing an undocumented teenage immigrant to get an abortion.

Federal judge Brett Kavanaugh is often mentioned as being the one candidate who checks all the boxes important to Trump.

But his supporters cite his experience and wide range of legal opinions.

Kethledge, 51, sits on the Sixth Circuit appeals court. He is seen as supporting originalism, an interpretation of the Constitution along the lines of its meaning at the time of enactment. Democrats are banking on the possibility they could retake control of the Senate, which would give them greater influence in the naming and confirmation - or blocking - of a nominee.
