Michael Gove urges hardline Tory Brexiteers to back Prime Minister's Chequers plan

It's not the first time Nicj Clegg and Nigel Farage have faced one another

Brexiteer Cabinet minister Michael Gove admitted the plan was not everything he had hoped for, but he was a "realist" and the Prime Minister's lack of a Commons majority meant the "parliamentary arithmetic" was a factor in deciding what could be adopted.

May told the BBC that the plan, which her fractious Cabinet endorsed after a marathon meeting, would allow Britain to make good on its Brexit commitments while still protecting British economic interests.

"This agreement, I believe, will be good for the United Kingdom and good for the European Union, and I look forward to its positive perception", said Theresa May to BBC.

He stressed that Britain was leaving the European Union as planned in March, adding: "You shouldn't make the flawless the enemy of the good". One of the things about this compromise is that it unites the cabinet.

The foreign secretary was blunt about Theresa May's new plan for Brexit.

Among other things, Mr Johnson described the PM's proposals as "a big turd".

For May, it was a hard-won victory.

Brussels will be reluctant to support any plan which would risk splitting the single market, and ministers appeared to acknowledge this by agreeing to step up preparations for a "no deal" Brexit.

May's plan would create a free trade area with the European Union for goods, to protect supply chains in areas such as manufacturing, while maintaining flexibility for Britain's dominant service sector.

Britain appears to do this by suggesting it maintain European Union rules on goods but adopt greater flexibility on services and end free movement of people.

The government still has to negotiate a deal with Brussels, where sources warned the customs compromise looked very similar to the so-called new customs partnership the European Union rejected as "magical thinking" 11 months ago. "I think Theresa May had a real political success in being able to produce a paper which the entire cabinet is able to support".

Jackson had 13 points , six rebounds, one assist and a steal for the Pelicans in 13 minutes of play before being sidelined. Bagley III has come just as advertised, proving he's a relentless defender, good inside scorer and versatile athlete.

"Today in detailed discussions the cabinet has agreed our collective position for the future of our negotiations with the EU", May said in a statement.

Another minister from the Brexit department, Suella Braverman, was also reported by local media to have resigned, although there was no official confirmation and she did not respond to a request for comment.

"We have also agreed a new business-friendly customs model with freedom to strike new trade deals around the world".

Barnier reiterated that much remained to be done to reach a broad Brexit deal in October, leaving enough time for the EU's elaborate ratification process before the Brexit date in March.

Jacob Rees-Mogg, Tory MP and leader of the influential European Research Group of pro-Brexit Conservatives, said he would not vote for a plan which crossed the red lines set out by May earlier, but wait to see details in the white paper next week. "That is not something that this country voted for, it is not what the prime minister promised", he said.

Opposition Labour Party Brexit spokesman Keir Starmer said May's proposal had "fudge written all over it".

He told BBC Radio 5 Live's Pienaar's Politics: "I'm very, very disappointed with the offer that we've seen coming out of Chequers - I'm disappointed that so-called Brexiteers in the Cabinet didn't pick up the cudgels and fight for a better offer".

Labour's opposition, combined with complaints from some of the Conservatives' strongly anti-EU faction, means May could face a tough task in getting lawmakers to back a final deal.

Mrs May has consistently tried to go over the head of Commission chief negotiator Michel Barnier and straight to European Union leaders.

She said there was a "willingness to sit down and talk" about the plans.
