Confusion swirls on border after President Trump’s reversal on families

Rep. Steve Russell R-Okla. left and Rep. Mike Gallagher R-Wis. walk to a closed-door meeting with House Republicans seeking more information about compromise legislation on immigration at the Capitol in Washington Thursday

After spending the early part of the week insisting on the need for congressional immigration action, by Friday he had abandoned those efforts - tweeting that Republicans were "wasting their time" - and is girding for mid-term warfare. Rather than be separated from his children, "I said, 'better that we head back to my country, '" said Castillo.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department has gone to court in an attempt to overturn a decades-old settlement that limits the amount of time migrant children can be locked up with their families to 20 days. The fate of those children remains unclear.

"We want strong borders".

They were trying to persuade colleagues to seize the moment and tackle immigration problems by approving the bill, which includes $25 billion for Trump's border wall and a path to citizenship for young immigrants who have lived in the USA illegally since childhood.

It will keep families intact while they are in custody, expedite their cases and ask the Defense Department to help house them.

Calling for a "strong" border, he says: "We can not allow our Country to be overrun by illegal immigrants as the Democrats tell their phony stories of sadness and grief, hoping it will help them in the elections".

At the end of a particularly acrimonious week, President Donald Trump roiled tensions once again with vacillating rhetoric over the ongoing immigration debate fueled by family separations at the U.S. -Mexico border.

Trump emphasized that for these families, separation is permanent. Several of those speaking condemned the media for ignoring the stories of the victims and praised Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for their attention to border security.

But regardless of how the autographs came to be, people said the White House event was positioned to push Trump's inaccurate claims about undocumented immigrants-and that the autographs on the photos were gaudy.

The police report released late Thursday indicated Uber company officials were consulted early on in the investigation. That report also said toxicology reports found Herzberg had methamphetamine and marijuana in her system.

Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., said Trump was "expressing his frustration" at a lack of Democratic involvement on the issue and that efforts will continue to find enough votes to pass a bill.

More than 2,300 children already separated from their parents, Trump's policy still not in force.

Trump has spoken about "angel families" often, referencing the group as he justifies his hardline policies on illegal immigration. We can not allow our Country to be overrun by illegal immigrants as the Democrats tell their phony stories of sadness and grief, hoping it will help them in the elections.

"What is the goal of the House doing good immigration bills when you need 9 votes by Democrats in the Senate, and the Dems are only looking to Obstruct (which they feel is good for them in the Mid-Terms)", Trump tweeted.

However, according to a man who says he is the girl's father, the child and mother were never separated and were detained together in Texas.

GOP leaders trying to persuade colleagues to seize the moment and tackle immigration problems by approving the bill, which includes $25 billion for Trump's border wall and a path to citizenship for young immigrants who have lived in the USA illegally since childhood.

Amid the chaos over the zero-tolerance policy, many immigrants continue to seek asylum at the border, and they are typically allowed to stay with their children. "And it's like, I think he's with us, but he's got to really come out for us".

But, as of 4 p.m. on Thursday, Trump was still making calls to Capitol Hill and demanding that the House pass a bill.
