Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna suspended 75 games by Major League Baseball

JA-Happ-Gett

Back on May 8, news broke that Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna had been arrested and charged with domestic violence in Toronto.

Osuna will participate in a confidential and comprehensive evaluation and treatment program supervised by the joint policy board of Major League Baseball and the players' association.

The suspension, which Osuna is not expected to appeal, is retroactive to May 8 and extends through August 4.

A criminal investigation against Toronto Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna is now ongoing, but Major League Baseball issued a statement on their decision to suspend the 23-year-old. The Blue Jays have issued a statement saying they respect the decision by the commissioner and also offered up no further comment on the pending legal matter.

He is 8-13 with a 2.87 earned-run average and 104 saves over four seasons with the Blue Jays.

Basile said the 23-year-old intends to plea not guilty and he plans to meet with the Crown to seek a resolution to the case ahead of a July 9 hearing, and some privately questioned why Major League Baseball jumped the gun.

"I don't have much of a reaction other than you take what Major League Baseball does and trust that and live with that and let it go through its course", Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said before Friday night's road game against the Los Angeles Angels. "We've kind of moved past that anyway and made do with what we've had". He'll miss out on roughly $2.7 million in salary - $35k per game.
