Airbus: 'No-deal' Brexit would be 'chaos at the borders'

Aviation giant Airbus has threatened to leave Britain if the country leaves the European Union without an agreement on future trading relations. If this news isn't a wake up call to the Government, then I'm afraid nothing will be.

'A no deal Brexit must be avoided, as it would force Airbus to reconsider its footprint in the country, its investments in the United Kingdom and at large its dependency on the UK.

"While Airbus understands that the political process must go on, as a responsible business we require immediate details on the pragmatic steps that should be taken to operate competitively", Tom Williams, CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, said in a statement.

She said European Union member states, as well as the United Kingdom, need to understand the importance of the way Airbus works. Therefore, immediate mitigation measures would need to be accelerated.

Airbus said the warning was not part of "project fear, but its "dawning reality".

Without these, Airbus believes that the impacts on our United Kingdom operations could be significant.

"Put simply, a No Deal scenario directly threatens Airbus' future in the United Kingdom".

"The next time Liam Fox parrots the slogan no deal is better than a bad deal he should give some thought to the 14,000 people who work for Airbus, and the thousands of other people who have jobs dependent on trade with Europe", said shadow Brexit minister Jenny Chapman.
