She was 55 and had a 13-year-old daughter.

Kate Spade's father, Frank Brosnahan, has sadly passed away aged 89, just over two weeks since the death of his daughter and the day before her funeral.

Brosnahan, known to his family and friends as Frank, died on Wednesday night at his home in Kansas City, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Navy before graduating from the University of Miami in 1949, after which he returned to Kansa City to work in in the family construction business.

He is survived by wife Sandy, five children and eight grandchildren.

Spade sold her namesake brand in 2007 and it was bought a year ago by NY rival designer Coach in a deal worth $2.4bn (£1.8bn).

The Kate Spade New York foundation announced a $250,000 donation to the Crisis Text Line, and that it was matching public donations to the service for up to another $100,000.

Spade has been laid to rest during a service in Kansas City, where she was born. Spade admirers, including Olivia Lott, also were part of the crowds of people hovering under large, black umbrellas outside the church, many of them wearing Spade-designed accessories.

Kate Spade's grieving widow Andy Spade, his brother David and hundreds more have gathered for the fashion designer's funeral - just hours after the death of her heartbroken father. Her death was ruled a suicide.

The 55-year-old was found unresponsive in her NY apartment by her housekeeper on 5 June.

"One thing we feel is that any talk that they do that helps somebody else, Katy would have liked that", he said.

Coach, now known as Tapestry, bought the Kate Spade brand a year ago for US$2.4 billion ($3.25b).

Yesterday, the Kate Spade company vowed to donate $1 million to charities involved in suicide prevention.
