'Unconscionable': UN Human Rights Commissioner Calls Trump Admin's Border Policy 'Abuse'

The attorney general has violated his own churchs principles with his zero tolerance immigration policy the complaint alleges

USA officials said on Friday that almost 2,000 children were separated from adults at the border between mid-April and the end of May as the Trump administration implements stricter border enforcement policies.

"The letter, signed by 640 United Methodist clergy and laity members, said the child abuse charge was for "[separating] thousands of young children from their parents [and] holding thousands of children in mass incarceration facilities".

Hundreds of United Methodists have brought church law charges against Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who is a member of the denomination. Such charges could lead to a church trial, though few expect that to happen to the attorney general, the country's top lawman.

"I call on the United States to immediately end the practice of forcible separation of these children, and I encourage the government to at last ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in order to ensure that the fundamental rights of all children, whatever their administrative status, will be at the center of all domestic laws and policies", he added. It was sent to Session's church in mobile.

The United Methodist Church has been critical of the Trump administration's border policies.

They also accused Sessions with "dissemination of doctrines contrary to the standards and doctrine of the United Methodist Church", in reference to Sessions' quoting a bible verse to defend the "zero tolerance" policy. Several Bishops and other denominational leaders have spoken out about this matter, urging Methodists to contact Mr. Sessions and for these policies to change, but we believe that the severity of his actions and the harm he is causing to immigrants, migrants, refugees, and asylees calls for his church to step into a process to directly engage with him as a part of our community.

Though it's rare, complaints like these against a member of the UMC can lead to expulsion from the church.

He said Thomas Markle wanted to get a "proper chance" to put across his "side of the story" on a British programme. They'd arrange for me to show up in Los Angeles or in Beverly Hills under different names to get a fitting.

"In 50 years of the United Methodist Church, I am not aware of any complaint against a lay person moving beyond that stage", Lawrence said.

Democrats are pushing to stop children from being separated from their parents while some Republicans say we have to be tight on people entering the USA illegally.

"It's kidnapping children you know that's the way the church views that", Sea said.

Administration officials have defended the tactic as necessary to secure the border and suggested it would act as a deterrent to illegal immigration.

Wright said the group's goal in filing charges was to prompt such discussions.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol released video to reporters Monday showing the inside of one of the camps where children are taken after being separated from their families.
