Melania Trump 'hates to see' children separated from their families

Mexican girl Nicole Hernandez holds on to her mother as they wait with other families to request political asylum in the

The event in the city of Elizabeth came as news stories highlighting the family separations intensified political pressure on the White House, even from some of President Donald Trump's fellow Republicans.

But no law requires children and their parents be separated, only the White House policy, and as The New York Times notes, previous administrations frequently offered leniency to families caught crossing the border.

On Sunday, First Lady Melania Trump put out a mealy mouthed statement that echoed her husband, calling for congressional action where none is necessary.

Trump has steadfastly tried to deflect blame for the separation of children from their parents, consistently dissembling about why it is occurring.

Given the relatively recent nature of the zero-tolerance policy and time it takes illegal immigrants from Central America to make their way north, the administration should start to see results - or evidence of failure - over the next several weeks.

The other, described as a compromise between the moderate and conservative factions of the GOP, fully funds the president's desired wall along the U.S. -Mexico border, ends the diversity visa lottery and family-based immigration, and incorporates a pathway to citizenship for "dreamers" whose parents brought them to the United States illegally as children.

The small shelter along the Texas border to Mexico held 60 beds and a little playground where children could play. Sessions, too, is wielding his own religious argument, having used a Bible passage to defend his zero-tolerance policy.

When parents are taken into federal custody, their children are removed.

Kellyanne Conway, a counselor to the president, said on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday that "nobody likes" breaking up families and "seeing babies ripped from their mothers' arms". "So if they don't like that law, they should change it", Conway explains.

The separation of immigrant children from their parents at the border has drawn a good deal of criticism, targeting the policy instituted last month by Sessions.

Johnson shares US Open lead as Shinnecock takes toll
Daniel Berger , Tony Finau , Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson were tied for the lead at 3-over entering the final round of U.S. Few could have predicted at the start of the day that Berger and Finau would find themselves in the final pairing on Sunday.

The new figures are for people who tried to enter the USA between official border crossings.

The immediate cause of the crisis is Team Trump's decision to start prosecuting illegal border-crossers, rather than simply deporting them.

The strategy is setting children up for "psychological scars that will take a lifetime to undo", he said.

From April 19 through May 31, there were 1,995 children separated from 1,940 adults by U.S. Border Patrol, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed on Saturday.

Bannon decried the mainstream media's focus on immigrant children while ignoring Americans who have been victimized by illegal immigrant crime.

President Trump tweeted Sunday afternoon about the bipartisan need to create solutions: "The Democrats should get together with their Republican counterparts and work something out on Border Security & Safety".

"If the Democrats are serious, and if a lot of Republicans are serious, they'll come together".

"It amounts essentially to state-sponsored child abuse that is traumatizing young children by taking them away from their parents, not letting them know when they're going to see their parents again, keeping them in conditions that we wouldn't want any of our children in", said Castro, who's seen as a potential 2020 presidential candidate.

The measure, which was drafted with White House input, would also stop the practice of family separation, but not the detentions, and applies only to those families that arrive at the border seeking asylum.
