Will Nintendo Switch Soon Have Loot Boxes?

Fortnite

Unfortunately, that doesn't help the 2 million people that downloaded Fortnite on the Switch in it first 24 hours of release. Someone who started an Epic account on PS4 can not use that account on Xbox One or - and more important - the Nintendo Switch.

While it certainly has the numbers to sustain a good experience for its paid PlayStation Network subscribers, it's doing a disservice to games and their communities in the long run with its anti cross-platform position. Sony does not support cross-play support between the PS4 and the Switch, and that also means that you can't play Fortnite on the Switch with the account you've created on the PlayStation because that account is tied to your PSN account.

"We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point", a spokeswoman added.

Fortnite has been announced yesterday during Nintendo's E3 2018 Direct, to be coming to Nintendo Switch later that day. It is already available on the PC, Xbox One, Android, iOS and the PS4. But this doesn't come as much of a surprise: Other games that bridge the gap between consoles, like Paladins, Minecraft, etc., also support Nintendo and Microsoft's consoles but not Sony's. These links leave Siliconera. "For us, it's one of many mechanics that we can use to drive ongoing engagement in the game". You can blame Sony's increasingly aggravating opposition to cross-platform play.

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime said during an interview with FOX Business' Liz Claman that his company has not reached out to Sony regarding the problems with "Fortnite".

The company confirmed its availability to owners of its Switch mobile console ahead of the opening of the E3 gaming convention in Los Angeles. However, Sony has responded to BBC's request for comment, stating that it's listening to the PlayStation community. "Neither the Fortnite website nor Epic Games Customer Service are able to change this". We'll bring you more news on this as we get it.

Sony still has not explained why they are blocking players from playing on the Switch. The online backlash to the account locking has only gotten worse since news got out and Sony, for their part, haven't exactly handled the situation well, releasing a statement that can only be described as tone-deaf. You simply can't access both platforms from the same account.
