Fortnite reaches 125 million players | PC

Why? Because Switch users can play Fortnite with players on every platform - Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile - except for PlayStation 4. The qualifiers will begin this fall, while the tournament itself kicks off in late 2019.

The events will be based around the solo and duos format and the $100,000,000 prize pool will be spread out amongst the many events all over the globe leading up to the World Cup.

James Thompson, the chief executive of United Kingdom games developer Automation and now building 1,000-player battle royale game Mavericks Proving Grounds, said his team was building the game with wellbeing in mind.

Fortnite was made available on Nintendo Switch yesterday after it was officially announced at the E3 2018 Nintendo Direct event. Are you forced to create a new account to play on the Switch?

The announcement will undoubtedly excite many Fortnite players and fans, which could mask the small drama going on behind the scenes.

Of note, it seems that Fortnite will come with some Switch exclusive skins as well as it being its Battle Royale form; Save the World is neglected once again. It will not be selling franchises or teams and won't be allowing third-parties to do so. They have nothing to gain by supporting Fortnite cross-play, whereas Xbox and Nintendo have everything to gain from it. The Switch port went live on the eShop following the end of the presentation in North America, and is set for worldwide release at 14:00 PDT / 17:00 EDT / 22:00 BST today.

According to Epic, the game had over 45 million players in January. You can also purchase a Battle Pass season subscription at a cost of about $10. Sony certainly appears to be the sticking point on this one, at least from the outside. Still, it will be interesting to see how the company reacts to the particularly furious reaction from Fortnite's huge fanbase.
