We tried IHOP's new burgers, and they were shockingly good

We tried IHOP's new burgers, and they were shockingly good

But, no. Instead, the company announced they were "flippin' from pancakes, pancakes, pancakes to burgers, burgers, burgers", which had everyone flippin' out.

"Burgers are a quintessential, American menu item so it makes ideal sense that IHOP... would go over the top to create a delicious line-up of quality burgers", said Nevielle Panthaky, the chain's culinary chief.

"If we have other people in the world of burgers commenting on our burgers, it can only help", IHOP's president, Darren Rebelez, told Business Insider on Monday.

To demonstrate IHOP is as serious about burgers as it is about pancakes, it flipped the "p" to a "b" in their iconic name "for the time being", including its Twitter handle. Who now wants to be known as Pancake King. The "IHOb" name change is only "for the time being", according to a company press release, to promote their new, limited line of steakburgers, and the familiar name we all know and love will be back soon.

While IHOP's customers are confused as hell, their competitors are relishing this change. Netflix US tweeted: "brb changing my name to Netflib".

It was a marketing strategy and publicity stunt combined on the part of IHOP.

"Just because we have pancakes doesn't mean we can't do anything but pancakes".

Brad Haley, chief marketing officer for IHOP said "We're at the tipping point of where social and digital will become the bigger driver of awareness, sales and traffic for most advertisers". "So we said that's great, we agree with that approach, obviously, and we subsequently hired them".

But the trick comes with making the idea stick long after IHOb campaign ends.

The people at IHOP aren't promising a change in the name of the restaurant chain for good. The company wanted to capture the strong market that lies between the day and early evening while keeping a hold of its following during breakfast hours, per NPR.
