United States, Canada and Mexico to jointly host 2026 World Cup

World Cup 2026: Edmonton likely to host matches, as North America wins bid

Safe, rational and bountifully lucrative as the Federation Internationale de Football Association decision is to have the 2026 World Cup hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico, it is also disappointing for romantics fancying another tournament in Africa - and laced with contradictions, too.

The "United" bid received 134 of the 203 votes cast at the FIFA Congress in Moscow, while Morocco polled 65.

"I would like to thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Majesty the King, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, and my good friend His Excellency Turki Al-Sheikh for your tremendous support of the United bid", said Cordeiro.

Toronto's mayor noted that Canada had little chance of hosting the worldwide soccer tournament on its own, but will now reap the benefits resulting from its participation in the joint bid. Hosting rights for previous World Cups had been awarded by what was then a 24-person FIFA Executive Committee.

After 32 years, the World Cup will return to the U.S.in 2026, but Chicago won't host any games of the soccer tournament this time around.

The 2026 tournament will be the first to have 48 teams. The preliminary bid book submitted by the organizers anticipates 10 American cities at hosts.

"No one has said to us they're not voting for us because of who we have in the White House".

It marks the first time the World Cup will be held in more than one country since 2002, when South Korea and Japan shared hosting duties.

‘Shocking die-off of Africas oldest baobabs
Of the ten trees listed by the study authors, four died completely, meaning all their multiple stems toppled and died together. This included the Platland baobab and a few trees that appeared, by Patrut's calculations, to be more than 2,000 years old.

Just to add to the complexity, there was a third option for all voters: neither Morocco or United and we would have had to start a new bidding process. Will it inspire interest in the game to the point where future generations of American players have the desire and ability to take the national team to another level?

North America is optimistically promising to deliver $14 billion in revenue helped, while the tournament won't require major construction work required on the 16 planned stadiums, all of which already exist.

But which cities and stadiums will host games at the tournament is still being determined.

The World Cup final will be played in New Jersey's Metlife Stadium, which holds around 85,000.

"They have made a decision among themselves but ultimately it will be up to FIFA to decide", FIFA President Gianni Infantino told reporters Wednesday.

U.S. venues include the Pasadena Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, venue for the 1994 World Cup final.

While Canada has never hosted-or even qualified for-the men's World Cup, it can count on its more experienced co-hosts and current NAFTA partners.
