Musk's Boring Company wins bid to build high-speed system in Chicago

Chicago Cityscapes And City Views

Chicago has selected Elon Musk's Boring company to build its high-speed underground commuter system, according to The Chicago Tribune.

At the company's annual shareholder meeting earlier this month, Musk said he expected the Palo Alto, California, company to post a quarterly profit during the July-September period.

Mayoral spokesman Grant Klinzman told GeekWire in a tweet that the Boring Company won the bid. It is unknown when the project will go online, but the concept has made some headway in major United States cities. Reuters has not been able to reach the city or the company for immediate comment. This most recent effort was originally proposed last November, when the city opened up a "Request for Qualifications"-the first formal step in vetting companies eligible to submit proposals".

The system will be comprised of 16-passenger vehicles that will travel up to 150 miles (240 km) per hour through a tunnel that will cut the current 30 to 45-minute trip between the airport and Chicago's business district down to 12 minutes, according to Boring's website. According to the Chicago Sun Times, The Boring Company says it can install the whole thing, including the new airport station and Block 37 renovation, for under $1 billion.

The Chicago Infrastructure Trust, acting on behalf of the City of Chicago, chose the Boring Company's proposal for the Chicago Express Loop service from downtown Chicago to Terminals 1 - 3 at the city's O'Hare Airport - where almost 80 million passengers boarded or disembarked at the IL airport in 2017.

Trump really was as offended as he makes out, it wasn't caused by a Canadian failure to realize that American eyes are watching. Peter Navarro , the director of the White House National Trade Council, took the attacks a step further.

The company beat out a consortium that included Mott MacDonald, the civil engineering firm that designed a terminal at London's Heathrow Airport, and JLC Infrastructure, an infrastructure fund backed by former basketball star Earvin "Magic" Johnson, said the people, who declined to be identified because they weren't authorized to speak publicly. Maryland's Department of Transportation gave conditional approval to the construction of a tunnel from Baltimore to Washington for a super-high-speed transportation system, The Washington Post reported in October.

The SpaceX, Tesla and Boring Company CEO is set to talk tunnels Thursday in Los Angeles. Exact project costs and construction timelines will be negotiated with the contract.

One of the city's main stipulations was that the service cost less to use than comparable taxi and ride-share services, and presumably The Boring Company has said it can agree to those conditions.

The Boring Company is already working on a Loop transportation system in Los Angeles.
