Donald Trump says North Korea no longer a nuclear threat: ‘sleep well!’

Clapper US in much better place after summit

A quick answer: Probably not.

Trump described his meeting with Kim as "an interesting and very positive experience" and said North Korea "has great potential for the future". Trump promised to provide security guarantees to the North and suspend joint military drills with the South as long as negotiations with the North continue in "good faith". Kim, in return, agreed to work toward a vague "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

And now here we are, talking seriously about not-nuking each other.

It said the two men "gladly accepted" mutual invitations to visit each other's countries.

North Korea is believed to possess more than 50 nuclear warheads, with its atomic program spread across more than 100 sites constructed over decades to evade global inspections.

Trump added: "Before taking office people were assuming that we were going to War with North Korea".

But some argue North Korea didn't go any further than previous promises.

Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said on Wednesday that his country's military exercises with the United States would continue, calling them vital. The House's version already has a similar provision, which would limit funds that can be used to reduce troop levels in South Korea, and the Senate includes a "sense of the Senate" provision stipulating that "the significant removal of the United States military forces from the Korean Peninsula is a non-negotiable item" as it relates to North Korea's denuclearization.

USA officials had worked hard to get North Korea to agree to "complete, verifiable and irreversible" disarmament, and said they would not offer any major concessions until it took meaningful steps.

Trump's own chest-thumping tweet seemed reminiscent of the "Mission Accomplished" banner flown behind President George W. Bush in 2003 when he spoke aboard a Navy ship following the USA invasion of Iraq. "I said, I have something to say from North Korea. You know, he can have a membership at Trump National", Graham said on CBS, referring to Trump's golf course.

"They're going to get rid of their nuclear weapons", Trump said. He said South Korea is still trying to figure out the exact meaning and intent of Trump's comments. "It's possible. We're dealing at a high level, a lot of things can change a lot of things are possible", Trump told him.

North Korea still has nuclear weapons.

After successful cooperation at the Olympics, Moon sent special envoys to North Korea who later traveled to Washington with Kim's proposal for a summit with Trump. He met Kim again in May when Trump said he was withdrawing from the planned summit with Kim - a decision Trump quickly reversed.

Kimmel show personality Guillermo Rodriguez and the host proceeded to sit down for a mock summit to sign their own version of the "friendship agreement" that Trump and Kim signed.

Ordinary North Koreans consistently voice unequivocal support for the leadership when speaking to foreign media.

"Not all of that work appeared in the final document", Pompeo said.

At a news conference in Seoul, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was asked if the Pentagon and the South Koreans had been asked for their views.
