Raccoon Scales Skyscraper, Becomes Instant Social Media Star

As a raccoon scaled a St. Paul, Minn. skyscraper on Tuesday, social media got wind of it and cheered it on.

The woodland creature, branded by nearby Minnesota Public Radio as #mprraccoon, reached the summit just after 2am, Wednesday, local time.

The Fire Department has been trying to rescue it, but with the raccoon stuck on the outside of the building there's not a lot they can do given that the windows don't open. At one point, a small crowd had gathered on the street to see what would happen next.

Many citizens posted on Twitter they were concerned for the raccoon's safety and were anxious it had not eaten since it started its journey. "We're hoping he continues his climb", she said.

Lee resigns United Kingdom justice ministry role in Brexit protest
Pro-Brexit tabloid the Sun warned lawmakers on Tuesday's front page that they had a choice: "Great Britain or great betrayal". Details of the government's commitment will have to be formalised next week in a new amendment to the bill.

It's the whole talk of MPR today (follow the #mprraccoon hashtag on social media, and find more coverage at MPR News), but I'm nearly afraid to watch. CBS Minnesota reports a live trap has been set on the roof, with cat food to lure the raccoon.

The critter even had an account created in its honor, its first tweet reading, "I made a big mistake".

About 2.30 a.m. a grainy live feed from the scene showed a shadowy figure scurrying up and over the top of a 25-story building, prompting an nearly audible sigh of relief from the internet.
