Internet fixates on fate of raccoon on side of Minnesota skyscraper

Raccoon scales office tower in Minnesota captivating the public

"Somebody texted me this morning: 'We needed this win, '" Carter added.

The raccoon looked a bit bedraggled but healthy after it was caught before dawn atop the UBS Plaza.

The raccoon's saga began about two days ago when the brown, masked critter was spotted stranded on a ledge of the office tower.

"One of my colleagues spotted the raccoon on, kind of the ground floor, sitting on a ledge on Monday - it looked like a brown lump, nearly like a cat sitting there", Evan Frost told the BBC in the early hours of Wednesday. Above it, rather than the slightly-curved spaces it had previously climbed, rose an expanse of flat stone. The raccoon, animal-control authorities said, will be trapped and aided upon reaching the roof. Anything more might further spook the beast.

She said the animal is in good condition and is eating. But overnight, the nocturnal mammal thwarted that plan by beginning to descend.

The woodland creature, branded by nearby Minnesota Public Radio as #mprraccoon, reached the summit just after 2am, Wednesday, local time.

A parody Twitter account for the little climber tweeted about his accomplishments and thanked his fans after he got to the top of the building. "Goodbye friend!" the UBS tower tweeted on Wednesday.

A raccoon that became an internet sensation by scaling a 25-story office tower in downtown St. Paul was safely trapped Wednesday and released back into the wild.

There is not a whole lot that St. Paul Animal Control can do because a rescue mission would be too unsafe for both the raccoon and the workers.
