Paris on lockdown as 'armed man takes hostages'

At least two people are reportedly being held hostage in a building in central Paris, prompting a large police response to the area.

However, police have said there was no indication that the incident was terrorism-related, according to CNN.

There initially were three hostages, but one was reportedly freed shortly after the hostage-taking began at about 4 p.m.in the office of a startup, police union official Yves Lefebvre said. The attacker, who appeared to be brandishing a fake weapon, had doused his remaining two hostages in petrol, the source said. They declined to provide more details.

French special forces are in contact with and negotiating with the man, who claimed to have a handgun and a bomb and demanded to be put in contact with the Iranian embassy in Paris.
