Woman gored by bison in Yellowstone

That's perhaps the lesson for a 59-year-old California woman who was gored by a bison in Yellowstone on Wednesday.

"Hancock and a crowd of people approached within ten yards of the bison while walking along a boardwalk", the National Park Service said.

The bison reportedly became agitated when it crossed the boardwalk and charged the crowd, goring Hancock.

She is now in good condition and the incident remains under investigation.

It was the latest in a string of injuries caused by wildlife in Yellowstone.

The woman attacked on Sunday - Charlene Triplett, a 51-year-old employee of the hotel - was kicked multiple times in the head and torso. The woman was airlifted to a nearby trauma center to be treated for severe injuries.

The park service suggested visitors stay at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves and at least 25 yards away from other animals, including bison and elk.

The incident marks the fourth person injured by Yellowstone wildlife in just over a month.

This is also the second time a park visitor has been injured by a bison this year.

This incident remains under investigation.

Another two women were injured by elks over a three-day period - and one of them was seriously hurt. "When an animal is near a trail, boardwalk, parking lot, or in a developed area, give it space".

"If you can't maintain these distances, turn around and find an alternate route", the park advised.
