Divers search pond after suspected alligator attack

A woman is missing after a reported alligator attack in Davie Florida

Police have been on the look out for a woman who was reportedly dragged into a pond by a 12-foot alligator while walking her dogs on Friday morning.

Davie police tell news outlets that officers responding to Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park found a dog on a leash but no signs of the woman.

One woman on social media claims to have seen a 7ft alligator swimming in the water earlier this week.

"One of her dogs got bit by the gator", Davie Police Maj.

A witness saw the reptile attack the woman around 9.45am and pull her into the water in a park near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino - a major Miami-area tourist and entertainment attraction.

Authorities closed the park Friday.

A witness saw the woman walking her dogs and then noticed she was suddenly gone, WSVN reported.

"I was afraid", she said.

Florida was the scene of a fatal alligator attack in June 2016. They are particularly active during their mating season in May and June.

From 1948 to 2017, the commission has documented 401 people bitten by alligators, including 24 fatalities.
