Celebrity Chef Anthony Bourdain Dead at 61

Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series "Parts Unknown".

It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain was found unresponsive in his hotel room by a close friend, French chef Eric Ripert, on Friday morning, CNN said.

CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide. His original travel show, No Reservations, featured a theme by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and Parts Unknown's theme was by Mark Lanegan and Josh Homme.

Bourdain's death comes three days after American designer Kate Spade, who built a fashion empire on her signature handbags, was found dead in her NY apartment of suicide on Tuesday.

Another well-known figure, Kate Spade, also was found dead in an apparent suicide by hanging Tuesday. The book was based on a 1999 article Bourdain wrote for The New Yorker, "Don't Eat Before Reading This", one of the most important pieces of food writing ever published.

He became an executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles in 1998. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly hard time". "My daughter, like so many American children, has been largely raised by Filipinas", he said.

The celebrity chef had praised Filipino food, calling it the "next big thing" and expressed a fondness for lechon, and sisig.

CNN reports that Bourdain's death has been ruled a suicide.

A USA government report released Thursday found suicide rates inched up in almost every US state from 1999 through 2016.

A group in the Philippines is dedicated to addressing those who have suicidal tendencies.

The Natasha Goulbourn Foundation has a depression and suicide prevention hotline to help those secretly suffering from depression.
