Trump Suggests NFL Players Who Kneel "Shouldn't Be in the Country"

Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin on President Trump'He's an idiot

It requires that all players stand if they are on the field when the national anthem is played. Teams will be fined if players don't stand. Basically just trying to use the anthem as fake patriotism, nationalism, scaring people.

The NBA has had a longstanding requirement that players stand for the anthem before games.

President Trump responded with support for the NFL's decision to ban kneeling, saying on Fox & Friends that "I don't think people should be staying in the locker rooms, but still I think it's good".

"The league's new policy is not only offensive, it's contradictory", the petition states.

The new policy does give players the option to remain in the locker room during the playing of the national anthem.

Standing for the anthem is now mandatory if players elect to take the field for the pre-game ceremony.

Asked about what Trump said, Baldwin said at Seahawks' headquarters in Renton: "He's an idiot, plain and simple".

Marshall, a college teammate of Colin Kaepernick, knelt for the anthem before the September 2016 opener against Carolina and for the first two months of the season. Do I prefer that they stand? "We've got freedom of speech, right?" "I'm proud to be in a league that understands patriotism in America is about free speech, about peacefully protesting".

Speaking casually from the seats at practice, Kerr told reporters that be feels the National Basketball Association better understands why players have knelt during the "Star-Spangled Banner" better than the NFL. But we also understand that the right to express one's opinion, whether by spoken or written word or through protest, silent or otherwise, is fundamental to the United States of America.

"For him to say that anybody who doesn't follow his viewpoints or his constituents' viewpoints should be kicked out of the country, it's not very empathetic", Baldwin said. It's not very patriotic.

"I think it kind of died down, anyway, " said Broncos' starting cornerback Chris Harris Jr., who is a co-player's union rep with Matt Paradis. Again with the conversations we have had with the players' coalition with the NFL, the communication back and forth with the league office with (commissioner) Roger Goodell, with (NFL executive vice president) Troy Vincent, I thought that we were on a good track. "Of course. But I understand if they felt the need to protest".

To what extent do you support or oppose this policy? "I think that's part of it".

The new policy allows teams to adopt their own workplace rules, which many players interpreted as a backhanded way of subjecting them to fines, suspensions or loss of jobs should they carry on with the protests. Baldwin's comments likely echo what numerous players in the league feel about Trump's stance on the issue.

"Protest is an American tradition; by protesting we work to hold our country accountable to its highest ideals. We never had a player kneel past year". Instead of coming together to address an issue disproportionately plaguing the African American, the National Football League owners have chosen to bury their heads and silence players.
