Coalition strike in Syria kills 12 pro-government forces: Monitor

File Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah delivers a broadcast speech through a giant screen during an election campaign in the southern suburb of Beirut Lebanon Friday

Warplanes from the US-led coalition targeted two Syrian army positions in the eastern Syrian desert, a military media unit run by Lebanon's Hezbollah group said early on Thursday, but USA military officials denied any knowledge of the strikes, Reuters reports.

A war monitor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported two waves of US -led missile attacks early Thursday it said targeted areas controlled by IS east of the Euphrates River. The official added that their mission is "to defeat ISIS in designated parts of Iraq and Syria, and to set conditions for follow-on stability operations" and that "this has not changed".

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says none of the fatalities were Syrian nationals but foreign fighters.

"Some of our military sites between Albu Kamal and Hamimia were exposed at dawn today to aggression launched by U.S. coalition jets", state news agency SANA reported, citing a military source. "The missiles would have been fired by Israel", el-Rahman said.

The news agency had earlier said that sounds of explosions were heard near Dabaa airport, which lies about 20 kilometers southwest of Homs near the Lebanese border.

A "de-confliction" line in place along the Euphrates River since past year is meant to keep the two assaults from crashing into each other.

On Wednesday, a senior Israeli Air Force official warned the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad that if its air defense systems fired on Israeli jets, they would be targeted in return.

Nasrallah said that despite concerns, the US actions would not delay the formation of a new government.

"The United states and the Tel Aviv regime are gravely mistaken to think that by stopping financial funds from reaching Hezbollah, the resistance movement will abandon its activities", Nasrallah said.

The Hezbollah chief also congratulated the Syrian nation and government for liberation of neighborhoods south of the capital Damascus from the clutches of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.
