Victory for Veterans to Honor Veterans with Flowers and Flags on Monday

U.S. cities and towns rich in Memorial Day tradition

After taking a year off the Gear Jammers Car Club will host its annual Silverhill Car Show on Saturday, May 26. Valhalla Cemetery, 3412 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville. Today, volunteers still place American flags on the graves. "Anyone wanting to help needs to be at the American Legion Hall, located at 321 Market St.in Metropolis, at 7 a.m. on Saturday". Rose Cemetery and includes around 30 individuals who will have prepared presentation speeches.

Fort Lupton's 2018 Memorial Day Service on Monday will begin with a flyover at approximately 9:20 a.m. Mass attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs. A 10th US Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers Commemoration will take place at 11 a.m. and a butterfly release is scheduled for noon.

On Monday, May 28, services will be held by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard to honor all deceased veterans.

Grandville residents and veterans are welcome to join the flags ceremony at the Grandville Cemetery on Friday, May 25 at 6 p.m. Immediately after the service, additional services will be held by the post at Calvary Catholic Cemetery and Brenton Cemetery in rural Piper City.

A chicken barbecue will take place directly after the service, at the Sugar Valley Fire Company on West Anthony Street. The event is rain or shine. Melvin Price Park, Swansea. The guest speaker will be Michael G. Wenger, chief warrant officer 4, United States Marine Corps Reserve (retired).

The program will feature live music from Faith Fountain of Grace Culture Church, Lane Heffner-Roark and Rob McNurlin. East St. Louis City Hall Rotunda, 301 Riverpark Drive, East St. Louis.

Tribute: 10 a.m., St. Mary's Cemetery and Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Jeff Hastings, Illinois State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be the featured speaker.

At the Danville National Cemetery, the ceremony will start with a motorcycle parade by the Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders, and musical prelude by the Danville Municipal Band. The parade will conclude with a ceremony at Williams Park.

The ceremony will also include a laying-of-the-wreath ceremony outdoors at the academy's memorial monument. The names of 27 newly-inscribed veterans will be introduced. Bring lawn chairs to the ceremony.

The honor guard will conduct military honors Monday, May 28 at Madera cemeteries at 3 p.m., 3:15 p.m. and at the Madera Memorial at 3:30 p.m.

"It's about the ones who never made it back", he said, adding that people tend to get Memorial Day and Veterans Day mixed up.

Following the parade, a half hour memorial service will be held at the Kentwood chapter of Disabled American Memorial Park at 355 48 St. SE. On May 5, 1868, Logan, a leader of an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, called for a nationwide day of remembrance to be held later that month.

The Rev. Lynn Podoll will be the guest speaker. The monument is being supplied by Tisch Monument Company of Belleville.

Members of the public are sponsoring Flags of Honor in Triangle Park. Food and drinks will be available on site, including early morning coffee and donuts. Coralville American Legion Post 721 will hold the service, which is free and open to the public. Information: 618-656-3220.

The Ogdensburg parade will start at 7:30 a.m., from the firehouse to St. Thomas Cemetery for a memorial service, followed by services at Franklin's Immaculate Conception Cemetery at 8:30 a.m., North Church (Hardyston) Cemetery at 9:15 a.m., and the North Jersey Veterans Cemetery at 9:30 a.m.
