The first trailer of the movie "Mowgli"

The first trailer for the upcoming movie Mowgli has been released starring Rohan Chand as the boy abandoned in the jungle in a dark retelling of Rudyard Kipling's famous tale

After being postponed for nearly a year, we finally have our first official look at the Andy Serkis directed Mowgli. The live action, 3D adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's classic The Jungle Book will hit Irish cinemas on October 19th.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Andy Serkis' upcoming film Mowgli.

Director Andy Serkis spoke of his vision for the film, saying he intended it to align much more closely to the original book by Rudyard Kipling.

The protagonist Mowgli will be played by Rohan Chand with Matthew Rhys, and Freida Pinto. He added that the film is not much of a child's fairytale as it has some reality attached to it. Learning that the jungle is a risky place for those who don't acclimatise, Mowgli is accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own, save for the tiger, Shere Khan. Mowgli is a darker retelling of the story and it is evident from the little footage we have. The trailer moves into familiar settings as Mowgli living with Baloo, Bagheera and encountering Shere Khan, who looks eviler than he has ever before.

Playing the titular role, Rohan Chand is confused but fearless at the same time. Also worth noting is the menace that Benedict Cumberbatch brings to the table as Shere Khan, who arguably seems even more scarred and monstrous than the version portrayed by Idris Elba in Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book from 2016. Solid take. "I bit and I scratched and I spent my entire life fighting", the panther Bagheera (Christian Bale) tells the caged boy. Chand might still just be a kid, but from what we can see in the first trailer, he delivers a powerhouse performance as Mowgli.

Serkis - who created The Imaginarium Studios production company which specialises in motion capture technology - admits morphing the actors likenesses with the animals they play provided a wealth of unique challenges.
