Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny sentenced to 30 days in jail for a protest before the inauguration of Russian President Vladimir Putin "He is not our king".

A Russian judge on Tuesday sentenced opposition leader Alexei Navalny to 30 days in prison for leading a protest against President Vladimir Putin.

The court on Tuesday said Navalny's 30-day sentence would come into effect immediately, a Reuters correspondent there reported.

May 5, in more than 80 cities of Russian Federation held rallies in connection with the fourth inauguration of President Putin with the slogan "He's not our king".

Navalny's lawyer Vadim Kobzev said the trial had "clearly political motives" as Putin begins his fourth Kremlin term.
